PowerSchool “Unplugged”

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As a district, we have placed an emphasis on wellness in our school community. The Challenge Success data have shown that the overemphasis on grades has been identified as a source of stress for our students. As we begin to close out 2019, we would like to reframe the conversation around your child(ren)’s academics, focusing less on the letter grade and average and more on what they have learned, how they have grown and where they want to go.

Please use the coming week to ask your child this: What have you been learning in school? How do you think it will serve you in years to come?

To assist you in reframing the conversation, we will temporarily limit access to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. This limited access will be temporary and is designed to deemphasize the focus on letter grades and averages for assessment, homework and overall averages. We hope that this break from the PowerSchool Parent Portal allows for increased conversations with your child(ren) about their overall school experience, learning, and academic growth.

PowerSchool “Unplugged”:

  • Wednesday, 12/11/2019, 10:00 am thru Friday, 12/13/2019, 3:30 pm - No PowerSchool Parent Portal Access
  • Monday, 12/16/2019, 8:00 am thru Friday, 12/20/2019, 3:30 pm - No PowerSchool Parent Portal Access
  • Monday, 12/23/2019, 8:00 am thru Thursday, 1/2/2019, 8:00 am - No PowerSchool Parent Portal Access
We want to make you aware that periodically throughout the school year, we will be unplugging PowerSchool Parent Portal Access as a measure to help relieve the stress associated with the overemphasis on letter grades and averages.

Warm wishes,
John Connolly
